So many times in trading we forget this simple idea…
Tell the story.
Think about it like this: What is your favorite story to read? Is it fiction? Non-fiction? Is it a romance or an adventure?
What about your favorite movie? Is it suspenseful? Does it have a story line?
Or is it just flat? No real story just a bunch of events that are either neutral or positive?
My favorite movies are actually the ones that have huge adversity and fights and drama. I love movies and stories about the underdog. I loved Malcom Gladwell’s book “David and Goliath” I loved the book and movie “Lone Survivor“. I can watch “Gladiator” or “Saving Private Ryan” or “Braveheart” any time they are on TV.
I love the adversity of playing sports. I will play hockey or coach football and enjoy every moment of trying to improve and focus on the details. I will learn new techniques to make y guys better on the team. I like the fight…
Maybe some of you can relate.
Then why do we always shy away from the fight in trading?
Why are we looking for perfection? Because it has to do with money? What if your life was on the line? I think we seek perfection there too, and the only time people truly live, is when they let that go…
Here is the quote from my last post:
In general, people are not drawn to perfection in others. People are drawn to shared interest, shared problems, and an individual’s life energy. Humans connect with humans. Hiding one’s humanity and trying to project an image of perfection makes a person vague, slippery, lifeless and uninteresting.
This describes the EXACT difference between the successful and unsuccessful, traders included.
Perfection NEVER wins. Maybe in engineering a bridge or heart surgery or something. I’ll give you that.
But in life, as in trading, perfection is “vague and lifeless”.
Enjoy your trades this week. Don’t seek perfection, find gratitude that you get to be a part of a process that you hopefully enjoy participating in.
Have a great weekend.
